Project Overview
WUSS (Water Use and Sanitization System) is a chatbot-based decision support system designed to assist the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), South Africa in assessing, classifying, and regulating water use and sanitation activities.
The system translates complex water-use and sanitation regulations into a guided, conversational workflow. Instead of static forms or manual assessments, WUSS uses a rule-driven chatbot to ask context-aware questions, enforce regulatory thresholds, and dynamically determine compliance pathways based on user responses.
By embedding policy logic directly into the chatbot flow, WUSS reduces human error, improves consistency in decision-making, and enables faster, more transparent water-use authorization and monitoring.
Key Features
Rule-Based Conversational Logic
Implemented a decision-tree chatbot that dynamically adapts questions based on previous responses, ensuring users only see relevant regulatory requirements.
Guided Compliance Assessment
Transforms complex DWS regulations into a step-by-step conversational experience, reducing ambiguity and preventing invalid or incomplete submissions.
Decision Support for Public Sector Use
Designed as a policy-aligned DSS, supporting consistent interpretation of water-use and sanitation rules across regions, users, and cases.
Scalable Digital Service Design
Chatbot architecture allows future integration with databases, dashboards, and government systems, enabling analytics, auditing, and regulatory reporting.
